Welcome to my website.

In 2020, I graduated with a journalism degree. We were in the midst of a pandemic, and I found that covering COVID-19 for the last month of my college career burnt me out from writing. I had no interest in it anymore.

It’s fun to imagine “what would have been” if covid never happened, and I probably would have immediately pursued a career in journalism. Instead, I settled. I stayed at my retail job, and over the next two years, received one promotion and three raises. It took me two years to realize that retail isn’t my future, it was just a way to add money to my savings account until I figured out what I actually wanted to do with my life. So in July of 2022, I quit. I didn’t have any plans, I just wanted a break. I had saved up enough to take six months off, so that’s what I did. In that time, I completed a fashion certification course, and reignited my passion for writing. By January of 2023, I knew I needed to find a job. I decided that I didn’t want another filler job, I wanted to start my career.

Here’s the problem. Every writing job I found asked for a portfolio, or a link to a website where my writing had been uploaded. That makes sense, a business doesn’t want to hire someone with no proof of their ability to write. But now I’m faced with a dilemma. Yes, I have a journalism degree, but how do I prove it?

And thus, this website was born. So here I am, suddenly allowed to write about whatever I want, in my voice. I haven’t written in over two years, do writing skills go away? This website will give me the opportunity to figure that out.

I have split the website into multiple categories pertaining to my main interests. This website is both a way to showcase my recent work, while also experimenting with writing styles and voice. Categories like “Fashion” and “News” will follow more news style writing, while categories like “Reviews” and “Bookshelf” will resemble blog style writing.

Thanks for being here,

Brynna
